My unique experiences with time have been the inspiration for a number of scenes in my novels, whereas the NDE was the inspiration for the Metatron’s Army Series as a whole.
Details can be found in Lessons from the Edge: An Author’s Guide to Metatron’s Army.
- When I was two and had a near fatal reaction to a vaccine
I used this very vivid memory as a plot device in Advantage: Book One in the Metatron’s Army Series.
- Post NDE dimensional awareness
Though it was initially disturbing, I came to accept the awareness of other dimensions in the wake of the NDE. When I sat down to write Metatron’s Army, I pondered what my life would have been like had I not come to terms with the awareness. This was the inspiration for Time Distortion Sickness.
- The Dream that Isn’t a Dream
In the years after the NDE I would periodically experience what I call Spirit School. I have awareness on this plane that seems like a dream but isn’t. While here I am given information (lessons) though there are times when “I” have given the lecture. This is the inspiration for the Illusionary Plane in the Metatron’s Army Series.
- The Book of Life
During a very difficult time in my life I was taken to a Spirit School “classroom” and shown a page from a very large book. The information I was shown – with the intention of bringing me peace – gave me the strength to get through the problem.
I remember sharing the 2002 experience with Aaron upon waking.
- Images from a Firehose
During the NDE I was shown images at breakneck speed. This experience was the inspiration for a scene between Christine and Alexander in Promotion: Book Eleven in the Metatron’s Army Series.
- A Planet by any other Name
A couple of years after the NDE my family decided to relocate to Florida. While at a hotel pool in Dunedin, I struck up a conversation with a 17-year-old guy who was curious about the very visible and still bright red scar on my scalp. As the conversation progressed from brain surgery to NDE he became pensive.
He went on to explain that what I was describing sounded a lot like certain songs off of an album he’d recently purchased: Time by ELO.
Beyond curious I asked to listen to the album.
Interestingly, though I got what he was saying about the songs, it was the album cover that caused the strongest reaction. The imagery spoke to me in a way I could not explain. I later saw that the image was close to that of an Einstein-Rosen Bridge.
No coincidence I reacted as I did.
It’s hard to put into words how healing this experience was.
Until that point, I had been unable to explain even the most basic aspects of the NDE because it didn’t fit into other people’s existential comfort zones.
I asked for and received a copy of the album for Christmas.
To this day it is one of my very favorites and if I were allowed only one album on a desert island this would be the one.
To honor the experience, I named one of the primary planets of influence in the Vetria System for the group.
Yes, the name is clunky but to me it had to be Eol – to do justice to the role the group played in healing my psyche in the aftermath of the NDE.
